Colour Reduction Linocut Workshops

Colour reduction linocut is an advanced form of relief printmaking where multiple layers of colour are printed from a single block through successive stages of carving and printing. With each layer, more of the block is carved away, making the process both planned and irreversible.

Our colour reduction workshops guide participants through the complete process of creating layered, multi-colour prints, from planning colour separations and registration to carving and printing each stage carefully. Taught by practicing, professional printmakers, the workshops offer expert, hands-on guidance throughout the process, helping participants understand how colours interact through layering, how to build depth within an image, and how reduction printing differs from standard linocut techniques.

The process develops patience, precision, and a deeper understanding of image construction in printmaking. It also introduces participants to the more experimental and process-driven possibilities within relief printing.

By the end of the workshop, participants leave with layered colour prints, their carved reduction block, and the technical understanding required to continue experimenting with reduction printmaking independently.
